Of course, we all know how important it is to read. Not only for school, but for pleasure as well. Reading helps build your vocabulary, it creates and stimulates your imagination, helps you become a better writer, and it exposes you to places and things you never knew existed. I mean, come on… it’s far better than TV.

However, there are still some people and even kids that don’t like to read. Now, with reading being one of my favorite things to do, I can’t imagine why anyone would be opposed to reading, but it happens. Here’s how one parent decided to get his child to read and I must say, it’s creative! Remember when the schools would offer pizza to the student that read the most books over the summer? I miss those times.

Considering the fact that reading used to be illegal for African-Americans, which lead to death, being whipped, or worse for even learning to read, I feel like it’s really no reason people shouldn’t take advantage of the opportunity to read as much as they can now. I mean, we are living in the technology and information age. It’s right there at your finger tips and Google is free. Take my word for it: Nothing, but good things that come from reading for pleasure. There are some AWESOME books out there‼

In closing, if you’re looking for a way to motivate your child and get them to read more. Lead by example and let them see you reading. Turn off the TV and have a reading hour each night. Add some incentives like this parent did. Find a genre that will draw your child in and keep them interested. There are SO MANY books out there. All you have to do it be consistent and reinforce their good habits. ❤
