It’s never too early to teach your children about how to protect themselves. While they aren’t straying too far from home these days, NOW is the perfect time to run drills and teach them to be able to save themselves, so that it can become second nature. Especially since life will revert back to some form of normalcy at some point.

It’s never too early to teach them what to do if a stranger tries to kidnap them or their phone number to call a parent or other trusted adult. It’s never too soon to start teaching them not to freeze up or cry, so they can immediately jump into action b/c they only have seconds to save themselves from danger. So, here’s a thread of some pointers:

Another way to keep them safe is by using a code word when they are in trouble and don’t want to draw attention to themselves. Something that they can remember and that is inconspicuous like strawberries. This word lets you know to come and get them from wherever they are, they need you immediately!

Example: Mom, I wanted to let you know that I made it to Kendra’s house okay. Did you see the picture of the strawberries on the fridge? What did you think of it? Or even if they text strawberries, you know they are feeling unsafe and need you to come and get them.

In conclusion, I know things in the world aren’t exactly normal. However, use this time to talk to your children about their safety and what that would look like. Children are still being snatched up every day and crime doesn’t stop b/c COVID is here. Be safe out there. ❤
